1. Mason County (25-9) - The Royals advanced to the second round of the boy’s state tournament a year ago and hope to build on that experience.

Darius Miller will again be the go to player for Mason County, but the cupboard is far from empty as he will have a boat load of talent surrounding him. Coach Chris O’Hearn will have plenty of weapons to fuel the defending region champions.

2. Clark County (22-9) - The region runners-up from a year ago have one of the most explosive 1-2 punches in the region.

Preston Knowles and Tristian Jones will wow crowds again this season. Don’t be surprised if Scott Humphrey’s Cards are back in the championship game this year with a different result.

3. Bishop Brossart (19-12) - If you look solely at the Mustangs record from a year ago you might think “What happened?” Bishop Brossart went thru a lull after the Class “A” state tournament as they dropped a total of 6 in a row.

Coach Mike Code had his team clicking at the right time as the Mustangs won 4 of their last 5 as they fell to Mason County in the semifinals by 5. Bishop Brossart lost only three seniors and returns four starters along with a solid bench.

4. Montgomery County (16-14) - Bart Rison’s Indians lost only two seniors from a year ago. While everyone else may be penciling in Mason and Clark in the region finals, Montgomery County may be the sleeper in the 10th Region.

While the Indians may fly under the radar during the regular season, that won’t be an option for Jordan Stephens. The junior center will make opponents take notice this season.

5. Pendleton County (28-4) - The Wildcats are one of five 10th Region teams that sport a new head coach as Chad Simms takes over for Buddy Biggs who took the help at Ashland Blazer.

Kane Belcher will be the center of attention in Falmouth. If the Wildcats can get solid play around the 6-6 Belcher then the three time defending district champ should make some noise.

6. Harrison County (14-12) - Coach Lee Kendall’s Breds may be in a rebuilding mode of sorts this season. Harrison County will look heavily to Jimmy Mullins to lead the Breds. The 6-3 guard/forward combo players will have foes taking notice this winter. Andrew Case and J. T. Custard will provide a lot of help scoring.

7. Bourbon County (16-10) - The Colonels new head coach, Mike Flynn, will have this tradition rich program continuing in the right direction. Flynn takes over Bourbon County after Daniel Brown took the head coaching job at Henry Clay.

Learning a new system may make the Colonels get out of the gate slow, but come tournament time Bourbon could make some noise.

8. Campbell County (10-15) - The Camels lost quite a bit to graduation but return two solid players in Noah Dischar and Jon Verst. Campbell County will rely heavily on younger players but with Head Coach Mike Reitz’s leadership this is a team that if they come together could be in the hunt.

9. Scott (15-14) - The Eagles enjoyed there first winning season in a several years. Coach Brad Carr will look to Nathan Sharp and Chris Quigley. Both seniors averaged double digits a year ago.

Scott will be a team the should look to score in transition with an abundance of team speed.

10. Augusta (9-18) - Coach Robin Kelsch and the Panthers will look to build on their first trip to the 10th Region tournament since 1982. Augusta will have starters Jeremy Hardymon and Josh White back from a year ago.

Junior Dustin Staggs will also open some eyes this year. With the right draw the Panthers will not be absent long from the region tournament.

11. Silver Grove (17-11) - The Big Trains under second year head coach Tony Bacigalupo will have a back court that will rival just about anyone in the region. Sharp shooter Corey Pelle will lead the charge along with Teddy Wiseman and Steven Pelle.

The only missing piece for Silver Grove will be strong post play. Aaron Allen will man that spot, but at 6-2 will have his work cut out for him.

12. Saint Patrick (14-15) - The Saints enter season two under head coach Jason Hinson with high hopes of a better than .500 season. Saint Patrick will look to Chris Owens for scoring.

If Nick Anderson can stay healthy he will help the Saints in many rolls. William Newton will patrol the paint and step out to keep defenses honest.
13. Bracken County (13-15) - The Polar Bears are another team that has a new head coach. Jay Fite takes over the reins in Brooksville as Robert Hammonds took the head coaching job at West Jessamine.

If Bracken can adapt quickly to Fite’s new system and get strong play in the post out of Tyler Hamilton to go along with Jesse Hall’s exciting guard play then it could be a fun season for the Bears.

14. Deming (9-17) - Jamey Johnson is the new head coach at Deming and has a nice bunch to build with. Travis Massey and Justin Hendrix are two that stand out but will have to have some help. The big plus for the Devils is always effort. From tip to final horn they always play hard.

15. Paris (4-19) - How is this for a reversal of roles? A school that has always had athletic guards that can beat you off the dribble and bury the three now looks to the post for their top player.

Chase Dumphord is 6-5 300lbs and will be a force in the middle. If Paris can get help for Dumpord’s double-double (14 ppg 11 rpg) average of a year ago then things will be looking up for the Hounds.

16. Calvary Christian (8-17) - Youth will be the key word for the Cougars. Calvary Christian has only three seniors but return a solid player in Tyler Baker.

Backcourt mate Joe Flannigan and Marlon Bray will be looked to for leadership. The Cougars should be much improved over a year ago.

17. Nicholas County (4-21) - The long rebuilding trail continues in Carlisle. That job falls on the shoulders of Michael Cofer, the new head coach of the Bluejackets.

6-5 Clifton Willoughby will be an important piece in the puzzle. He will have to log a lot of minutes and stay out of foul trouble for success.

Top Players

1. Darius Miller (Mason County) This 6-6 junior is rated as one of the top juniors in the nation. Size, quickness, ball handling and outside shooting make him a triple threat.

2. Preston Knowles (Clark County) Super quick guard that will make things happen. Don’t be surprised if Knowles is playing at the next level.

3. Troy Cooper (Bishop Brossart) At first glance Cooper looks more like a football player playing basketball. Until they tip it up and then the 6-5 senior will show his finesse.

4. Tristian Jones (Clark County) If healthy Jones will be a huge factor in the Cardinals success. The senior will half of a solid inside-out game for the Clark County.

5. Kane Belcher (Pendleton County) Belcher is deceptive. Listed at 6-6 he is able to score from various spots on the floor.

6. Chase Dumphord (Paris) Size is the key word for Dumphord. At 6-6 300lbs he is a force in the middle. Led the Greyhounds in points and rebounds a year aga.

7. Russ Middleton (Mason County) Middleton was slowed his freshman campaign by injury. The best is yet to come for this talented guard.

8. Corey Pelle (Silver Grove) Pelle is a sweet shooter that can fill it up from the outside. Defenses can not give him daylight or he will make them pay.

9. Jimmy Uebel (Bishop Brossart) Uebel is the ultimate role player. He is able to step out and play the wing or crash the glass.

10. Chris Owens (Saint Patrick) A super smart player that could take over for Saint Patrick. Once he realizes his potential then Owens will be a difference maker.

11. Nathan Sharp (Scott) Sharp will provide experience for the Eagles. That and double digit scoring on a nightly basis.

12. Jordan Stephens (Montgomery County) Stephens could be a major force inside as the 6-7 junior will have big expectations. If he continues to improve then the big fella will open a lot of eyes.

13. Jesse Hall (Bracken County) Everything the Polar Bears do will run thru Hall. His quick first step is a tremendous asset and he will make things happen.

14. Jeremy Hardymon (Augusta) Hardymon will be fun to watch again this season. He is able to score, handle the ball and do much more.

15. Josh White (Augusta) The type of player that goes nonstop from tip to games end. He will be the important piece in the Panthers success.<!-- / message -->
