View Full Version : Is this a recruiting coup for Donovan?

How much will this whole mess help Donovans short term recruiting efforts?

#1 Nearly 100% chance he will be at UF for the next five years, so recruits will not have to wait and see what he is going to do every year. (Can't go to the NBA and after turning down UK likely not going to take another college gig)

#2 Use the fact that he had a pro job and turned it down as a selling point to recruits that he has the ability to get them to the next level since he is apparently already coaching at that "level".

#3 Big selling point to momma and daddys that he is "all about family" as his backing out on the Magic proves.

I think #1 is and I heard somewhere he asked for that so recruits would know he is staying.

Yes, the contract says 5 years, but how much of his word can now be believed???? Did he not also offer to sign papers for PP and Lucas that said he would not leave for the NBA? I know he's back, but he did leave after offering that. A lot of his word, or lack of, can be used against him until he can prove he's not going to be Larry Brown with some sort of mental disorder that always makes him say yes no matter what....

:thumb: :thumb: I do believe that he will stay at U.F. for the next 5 years though. Donovan has pretty much ruined his reputation for "a man of his word" for a while anyway and he will be hailed as the "hero" at U.F. (except still being 2nd to football :D ). 5 years will pass and people have short memories.

Does anyone think that when U.F. comes to Rupp this coming season that the student section will be filled with pairs of "Flip Flops" to jab the Gators and Donovan?

I don't think it will change things at much, he will still get a lot of great kids to come there. Maybe a few borderline kids might take that into consideration.

If anyone is going to beat Florida or get revenge from the last 2 years, next year is the year to do it.

If he ever gets out of coaching he would be the perfect politician, he already can flip flop with the best of them. :thumb:

Does anyone really believe that ban will stick if a team, let's say Lakers, wanted him? They would give the Magic a draft pick or some cash or some combination and Billy D would be their coach if they wanted him bad enough.

There is never a ban set in stone in professional sports if there is money to be made off lifting the ban.

I think what he has done has opened the door for his opposition's to move in and use his lack of trust against him and perhaps steal a recruit or two. Don't get me wrong, Billy D will still be solid in the recruiting department, but he will lose some guys being that other capable recruiters will use this against him in order to sway a few big names away from UF and to their schools.

How about the one on Pete Rose?

How about the one on Pete Rose?
You gave me an example to prove my point.

When MLB has a major advertiser shelling out BIG BUCKS for the All-Century team or whatever it was called, the ban was lifted and Rose was on the field at the All-Star Game.

The Reds got approval for Rose (I am assuming they did) to be at the opening of the Rose exhibit for the Reds Hall of Fame.

Isn't there some REds event coming up that Rose is going to be at?
