BGP 10th Region Girls' Preview
Special to Bluegrasspreps.com
Mason County (22-10) – Mason County returns three of the top players in the 10th Region, and that may be enough to supplant Montgomery County atop the region mountain.
Senior De’Sarae Chambers has verbaled to Dayton after scoring 18 points and grabbing 6.5 rebounds in helping lead the Lady Royals to 10th Region title game.
She will get help on the frontline from Kasey Litzinger (5-8, Jr.), who averaged 12 points and showed the range to step outside and knock down the long shot.
Lacey Cline (5-7, Sr.) returns to run the show after scoring over 13 points a game last year.
However, head coach Paula Buser will need to develop a deep rotation in order to fend off Montgomery County.
Sophomores Keller Menke and Hilary Doyle figure to factor in that plan somewhere.
Montgomery County (30-6) – Legendary coach John High stepped down after 700 wins and leading the Lady Indians to the region title last year.
Assistant Janie Robinson moves over to lead Montgomery, who return senior guard Maggie Prewitt, who averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, four assists and four steals a game.
5-6 junior Mackenzie Lee (9.7 ppg., 3.5 rpg.) joins Prewitt in the backcourt.
Up front, Montgomery appears set with 5-10 junior Kayla Webb (3.4 ppg., 2.7 rpg.), 6-0 junior Brooke Colliver (3.1 ppg., 4.1 rpg), and junior Elizabeth Prewitt.
Paris (14-13) – Everyone is back for head coach Terence Brooks from a team that wasn’t that deep last year.
Senior guard Nakita Jones set a school record with 13 steals last year and will be joined in the starting lineup by Sasha Davis (5-6, Sr.), Emily Hinkson (5-9, Jr.), and Lauren Forsythe (6-1, Sr.).
If Brooks can find some depth to compliment his aggressive defense, the Lady Hounds could spring a big upset in March.
Clark County (17-11) – Sophomore Jewel Rogers (10.7 ppg.) and freshman Preshia Rogers (8.8 ppg.) return for head coach Scott True, who is looking for larger contributions from seniors Whitney Montgomery and Ginger Wallace.
The Lady Cardinals will rely on their speed and quickness to offset a lack of size inside.
Bourbon County (14-15) – Bourbon County won 14 games a year ago and should have everyone back this year.
Molly Norton (5-9, Sr.) averaged a double-double (13-10) before suffering a knee injury in the district tournament. She should be ready to go full speed by Christmas.
Ivy Livengood (5-9, Sr.) also returns for head coach Tony Sosby, who is expecting big seasons from senior Bree Massie, C.J. Edwards, and Shawna Sexton.
Harrison County (18-12) – Mac Whitaker’s squad returns three starters from last year’s 38th District title team that lost to Montgomery County in the region semifinals.
Charley Hatfield, Laura Kendall, and Kacey Muntz have enough experience to guide the Lady ‘Breds to another district title. If they can develop some depth, they could become a major player in the region tournament.
