April 16, 200719 yr The new coaching staff at Marshall - Donnie Jones and Shawn Finney - have been putting the full court press to land Matt Walls from Scott Co. Walls took a visit to campus on Friday and was given a scholarship offer at that time. UK's staff of Gillispie and Cox were at Scott Co on Sunday night to meet Matt and evaluate him during an open gym. No scholarship was offered at that time, but it is impressive that this staff is giving kids like Walls and Pettigrew a look. Walls also has offers from EKU, Morehead, and Georgetown College. Interest from Colorado and Penn State - but no offer yet from these. Whoever gets him is getting a quality player and a quality kid.
April 16, 200719 yr Why do you say that? Because he is not good enough to play at UK. No offense to him hes a fine player but why go to UK without a scholarship and sit on the bench when you can go else where and contribute on a full ride.

That's not what I see, IMO he has just as good a shot at UK as anywhere else. Plus I hear some other D-1 schools not mentioned still may come into play (I won't get into details here). Why settle? If he feels comfortable at Morehead then fine, But something tells me he would play elsewhere. I know UK is very interested, just have to see how things pan out for Walls. Just not sure the status of the Preferred Walk-On situation.

One thing that I like about Walls is he has a jump shot, not a set shot. He elevates real well on his jumpshot and can get it off pretty well. Hes also a winner, I think something can be said for players who winners.
April 16, 200719 yr He should go to Morehead. :thumb: All the people I've talked to at the games was very excited to find out Coach Tyndall was recruiting Walls. He would be a great OVC player. I don't think he's good enough to play at UK.

April 16, 200719 yr Matt should choose the Colonels, they have some good talent coming back and I think he would fit right in... Go EKU!!!!!!!!!!!:fight:
April 16, 200719 yr Author Chatanooga still after him as well? I haven't heard anything about them in a while. He really liked his visit to Marshall. Donnie Jones had his national championship ring on from being an asst. coach at Florida. He liked the arena. Shawn Finney was in touch with Matt when he was asst. for Tubby at UK so that relationship has helped Matt's comfort level too. I love DT at Morehead. I wish he'd been around more. He got on Matt hard for a couple of weeks but made the offer and hasn't been back to the gym - just phone calls to Matt. EKU has been on him the longest and hardest of the D1 coaches. However I heard that Newbaurer interviewed for the St. Bonaventure job... I don't understand why he would leave EKU for St. Bonaventure - lateral at best. ???
April 16, 200719 yr Author I heard that Marshall is to visit Walls and family either today or tomarrow. That's what I've heard too - tomorrow (Tuesday). We'll see if D. Jones and Finney can charm Mama Walls
