UK Hoop Prognostications (Season Record)

Featured Replies

I just don't have a great feel for this year's club.

Obviously, there is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding BCG and players, but I don't see anything earth shattering this year.

Hopefully Big Blue Nation will be patient when we are more that likely dealt some early losses.

An offseason full of injuries plus lack of depth in the frontcourt along with a new system is obviously going to go through some growing pains.

The non-conference portion of the schedule has some cupcakes but also some real bears, and we may face two really good teams in New York.

The season starts real early this year and BCG could likely use another week or two of preparation and healing.

I fully believe this year despite being short in certain areas will be a team that plays much harder and for longer periods of time. I belive this group will be more physical especially on the offensive side of the ball where we may see a much more effective job of screening.

I do not think we will see an up-paced tempo that many are hoping for because we lack some horses in spots, but I think we will be much more efficient on the offensive end.

All in all I see a regular season tally of somewhere in the 20-11 range for the regular season. I just hope fans are patient and not expecting miracles.

We are another recruiting class away from being back to fighting for Final Four berths.

Well just for future information, you might want to leave out the hoops part in the title of threads. Because when you say UK Hoops alot of people may think your talking about the womans team, because they are called UK hoops...:thumb:

As for this season, I know I definitely understand if we have a 20 and 11 record or something like that with all the things we have going on this year with the team...However I do think this team will be alot better than expected. This team does have talent on it, and probably will be playing with new found energy all year. So I expect this team to surprise alot of people...

Well, just for future information. When you say UK Hoops there are maybe 50 people in the world that think of the women's team...

And that is true. However since we have a college basketball forum now, no need to put the hoops on it, because everyone would know it is about basketball when talking about UK in a thread. The hoops phrase should just be saved for the women now, since that is what the team is called. So I think since as you say only 50 people would know that, that it is time to get the word out for everyone to know this information...;):D

Um. OK...

Was thinking the same thing.

Back on topic. With the lack of post depth, I have a tough time projecting this season. I think it could be masked for a while leading to false expectations, or they could start slow and surprise late. I guess the safe bet is to take the middle road and look for 18-22 wins leading in to the Dance...

UK women play basketball? Did they copyright UK Hoops? When you say UK Hoops, 82% know it's the men. The other 18%? I doubt it.

Well lets see this is a college basketball forum, so there is no need to even put hoops on the end of it because we know its about basketball since its in this forum. And you right when people think of UK basketball they think of the guys team. So that means any UK thread in the college basketball forum everyone is going to know its about the guys team. So why say Hoops on it, unless we want it to be the girls basketball team, since like it or not they go the the name UK hoops...

Also Yeah I know not many people know that, that is why I am saying that right now about it...

That is true, and that is why it really is hard to predict anything until we see this team actually play a few games...

That is the quandry.

I think this team should be far better at the end of the year than the second week of November. Most teams do improve, but I think with the transition of staff and development of players it is really true for this team.

Many people are led to believe that BCG is much more uptempo than Tubby's teams were. That is not entirely true. I really don't think Tubby liked the slow down game, but their offense over the last few years, along with offensive rebounding and lack of transition game, snowballed into what became known as "Tubbyball".

You will see an emphasis on transition defense from this group.

You will see a toughness which departs from what we saw the last few years.

18-22 seems about right..that is why I went with the middle...20.

There are many keys:

Developing some sort of production offensively/defensively from the post.

Joe Crawford finally stepping up and meeting his rep out of high school. Early reports have read that BCG has gotten on Crawford more than anyone. Joe has been lazy and it is his last time to answer the bell. BCG will not hesitate to bench him for someone who will give effort.

Shooting the basketball at an effective clip...no wild swings that we have seen over the years.

Couple other sidenotes...

During practices, all players are expected to sprint and help teammate off the floor. When one player falls to floor everyone is expected to be there to help him up. I will look for that on Wednesday. If they dont they are considered selfish....

One story floating around is that on conditioning session had BCG show up as the players were stretching and was ready to get festivities started when one of the walkons had shirttail out...BCG asked if they were ready to practice...team replies yes...he questions rather frankly why one player has shirt untucked...boots player form practice and runs team for over an hour.

And this style is why I was a fan of Billy G long before he was on the radar in KY...
