Five even classes ... better or worse?

Using the latest KHSAA enrollment figures, this is what a five-class alignment would look like. The formula was 44 schools each in 2A-5A, with the rest in Class A, given the possibility that some new programs would choose not to compete in district play right away. Walton-Verona and Bishop Brossart don't have their male-only enrollments listed, so I placed them in Class A, which appears to be there they would fit.

 

Each district has at least five teams, so a team would have to win at least one district game to advance to the postseason. The geography might need an adjustment or two, but personally, I would live with this much easier than I would a six-class setup.

I know one thing, Webster Co has no business playing Paducah Tilgman, which they will do in the proposed 6 class system.

That doesn't look too bad, though it'd be very upsetting if Bobby Redman decided to end The Old Rivalry (which I hear he has no problems doing) since that'd put Manual and Male in seperate districts.

I like the idea of a five class system but we all know they went to six classes now as a test ground for when they introduce the super class (six classes) in 2011.

I like it from my perspective in NKY. Not sure about the rest of the state though.

It looks better than the six class system, but a three class system would be better.

 

221 schools divided by three, equals about 70 per class.........much better!

 

State championship rings would be more scarce which is a good thing in my opinion.

That is an ok looking system, I like it much better! Too late, you should have been on the KHSAA board, Westsider! LOL!

OK, here's my only problem with more classes. I've bolded the teams that are seemingly always jockeying for a state title every year. Can anyone tell me what extra classes changes except the fact that HHS/Bowling Green or CCH/Boyle or Lex Cath/Rockcastle can all win a state championship in the same year? More classes, same old champions...IMO

Does the student body at Providence have a number of (maybe a few?) kids who could contribute to the football program?

Yes. Providence always has five or six athletes walking their non-football halls who could start at Webster County.

In the spirit of some of my other posts I think 5 classes would be nice if the 5th class was a super class of only 16 (or at most) 32 teams. For the record, I proposed exactly this about 4 years ago on BGP.
