Coach Brooks : Up or Down Vote

Up or down vote: Will Coach Brooks be on UK's sidelines in 2007?

Saturday will not be cake walk and Vandy has me concerned. I'm thinking

5-7 isn't going to get it done.

Not getting to 6 wins means losing to winless-in-SEC-play MSU, or at home vs. UL-Monroe or Vandy.

Losing any of those games is unaccpetable.

I've got a few questions. Are we still paying any former coaches that aren't on staff anymore, and how much would it cost the program to fire Brooks? These could be key in the offseason decision making.

The main problem I have with Coach Brooks is that he only seems to want to win 6 games. In the Courier journal he stated that if they lose against MSU then they only had to win 3 out of their last 4 to be bowl eligble. He has made other comments about how many games they had left to win 6 games. Realisticly no one expects UK to go undefeated, but Brooks should expect to win each and every game not just 6. I realize he came into a tough situation with probation and all and 6 games may be good for this year. However, as long as the UK program only aspires to win 6 games they will always be a mediocre program at best. Im usually not a Rick bozich fan from the courier journal. However, yesterday's article requiring Brooks to beat Georgia or Tennessee and win 7 games and a winning season should be his standard, was right on. Coach Brooks has no signature wins yet. If Vandy can go to Athens and win Then why cant UK?

I believe 6 wins should secure his job for at least another season...

However, in the last few wins or losses on the season, UK needs to be impressive/competitive in all games to retain his job. In other words, Brooks cannot get to 6 wins by squeaking by Vandy, Miss. St., and L-Monroe, and then being punched in the neck by Georgia, UT, and whoever they would play in the bowl game. They have to appear they belong on the field.

IMO the LSU debacle hurt him greatly. I don't think 6 wins secures his job. I guess that could change if he gets 6, gets into a bowl, and has an impressive showing.

I voted No in the feeling that I hope not regardless of the 6 poosible wins or not. 6 wins by the way is not a winning season.

I dont know about securing his job, but dont you think 6 is a lot better than what we are used to? It seems to me that everyone wants this program to turn around over night. Its not going to happen. This season and probably next Id be happy with 6 wins.

No one has been more patient than I have re: UK football. However, I think that the embarrassing performance at LSU where he admitted he did not have the players ready combined with a general lack of enthusiasm about the football program (see many empty seats) is going to have a huge impact on Mitch's decision. The only way to get that enthusiasm back to beat UGA or UT.

I think 6 wins saves him his job, not because 6 wins is ultra super spectacular, but because it shows progress. Currently it went from 4 wins to 2 wins to 3 wins. 6 wins would be more than the last two season combined. Now some would say "See, he's terrible!" I'd point out how crippling the loss of scholarships were and that now that that is starting to wear off that UK is coming around. UK will never be an undefeated team (probably), but I see no reason why if UK played a schedule like this year they couldn't eventually get as high as 7-8 wins, maybe higher if they steal a game here and there. Now, if they win 5-6 this year, and then slide back next year, he's gone.

I feel certain that Rich Brooks will be UK's coach next year, regardless if we win six games this year. Any one close to the UK program knows that overall with all things considered, he has done an excellent job.

I look for one or more assistants to be given their walking papers.

6 is better but still is not enough. You make some valid points and I hope you are correct.
