February 18, 200818 yr I understand it's not his job to be a homer, but it seems every basketball article takes a slap at Gillispie. I just got through reading his Sunday article and todays and according to him it was just luck and LSU being bad that UK won. I don't know how many times he mentioned the Vandy loss which was bad, but is also history. He just harps on the negatives all the time and in Sundays article gave the team very little credit for the win. Is it just me or does he irritate anyone else.
February 18, 200818 yr The Vandy loss is going to cast a very long shadow. LSU is bad, and squeaking by them isn't enough analgesic for the Vandy pain.
February 18, 200818 yr I for one an encouraged by what I see. BCG and the Cats have really improved as of conference play. The team just isn't talented and deep enough to satisfy UK fans. I don't they will be next season either. 2010 IMO will be first year UK has a roster or UK-Type talent.
February 18, 200818 yr I personally think that Billy Gillispie is a great coach. Some people need to consider that Rome wasn't built in a day. These things take time.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I read todays Hearld Leader. BCG must have done something to John Clay in the past.

John Clay and Mark Story are very annoying. They are always trying to bash someone. The problem is they are irrational and critical like a fan. They can't really look at the big picture IMO.
February 18, 200818 yr The Vandy loss is going to cast a very long shadow. LSU is bad, and squeaking by them isn't enough analgesic for the Vandy pain. LSU may be bad, but they just beat a good Florida team in Gainesville right before their game with Kentucky. That had to be some momentum.
February 18, 200818 yr Just to be technical, John Clay doesn't write articles. He writes columns. He is paid to give his opinion and that's what he does. I just don't think he's that good at it.
February 18, 200818 yr I personally think that Billy Gillispie is a great coach. Some people need to consider that Rome wasn't built in a day. These things take time. Billy Gillispie is not a great coach. I will set aside all my personal opinions of him between the lines as a basketball coach. My problem with him is in the manner he represents the University of Kentucky. How can he expect and demand accountability of his players when I can't "walk the talk" himself? The University of Kentucky basketball program can demand one the best coaches in the profession. Trust me, it 'aint Billy Slime.

As far as I'm aware, none of the negative rumors have been proven true. What has been proven is that he gave money to a lady in need with no intention of it ever being made public. On top of that, he's done things on the court that hadn't been done at UK in a while. He beat Vandy at Rupp, which UK hadn't done in two years. He also has two wins over ranked teams. Something UK failed to do even once last year. So as far as I can tell, he's good on the court, and at least OK off it. Whats your deal?

February 18, 200818 yr No different than Mark Story's disdain for all things Rich Brooks...he wrote articles trashing Brooks on a weekly basis until they turned things around midway through the season last year. It seems these guys like to talk the talk of "giving a coach some time", but when it actually comes down to it, they are as bad, or worse, than the fans they like to point out from time-to-time. I really wish Chuck Culpepper had stayed...I'd buy the Herald-Leader just to read what he wrote. John Clay, Mark Story...not so much.
