Woodson's Draft Stock Free-Falling

Featured Replies

I don't have ESPN Insider but with this link you can read a little bit of the article. Says Andre Woodson is struggling in practice before the Senior Bowl. They call him a former-first round draft prospect.

All 3 QB's should just go home, because Martz is worthless.

Agreed on this one CoachB. :thumb:

I myself never was a fan of Martz, his offense was exciting when he was offense coordinator of the Super Bowl Rams team, but ever since then he was nothing special in my opinion.

Good thing the rest of the NFL knows how good Martz is with his QBs.

Martz has nothing to do with Woodson's ability.

If his stock is falling it's because he was possibly overrated.

Your proformance at the Senior Bowl has everything to do with a player's stock rising or falling. If it was just one guy not doing well then I could see that it's all ability, but all the QB's not performing well...then it may be the coach throwing to much at them. If Martz changes to much mechanics on those QBs then they may feel overwhelmed and not have the confidents to perform well. What QB have you seen come right on a NFL team and perform well right away? None.

The individual workouts will mean much more than the Senior Bowl practice for Woodson. If he were a nobody before, then the Senior Bowl could get him discovered.

Martz isn't changging anyone's mechanics at the Senior Bowl, come on.

What about these comments taken from the article:

"Martz has apparently attempted to mold Woodson, Hawaii's Colt Brennan (Hawaii) and Tennessee's Erik Ainge into proper fits for his system in only a four-day period. In doing so, Martz has tinkered with their footwork on drops and timing as passers."

and

"In an attempt to adjust to Martz's system, Woodson is focusing on speeding up his drop and getting the ball out of his hands quicker, but doing so with less velocity on his throws. As a result, the hitch in Woodson's delivery looks even more pronounced and his accuracy is suffering. Essentially, Martz has unintentionally highlighted Woodson's weaknesses while masking his strengths."

Sounds like he's tinkering with them to me.

Wha the's changed has nothing to do with how he throws the ball.

Like your quote says it's taken a weakness that he already had and brought it out. It was already there, Martz didn't create it.

That pretty much looks like he's trying to change Woodsons mechanics. Martz isn't the best guy for this job IMO...

It just said that Woodson has had to change the way he throws the ball by trying to drop back quicker and release the ball faster.

It also said that his system brings out and magnifies Woodson's weakness while masking his strengths--it didn't say that his delivery was a fatal flaw, just not a good fit for Matz's system. I didn't want to quote the rest of the article since you have to have Insider to read it but it also said that Woodson's arm strength is good enough to make up for a slower delivery while Ainge and Brennan have a quicker release but weaker arms. I would think that the teams that draft any of the 3 quarterbacks would try to fit their strengths into the system and not totally change their mechanics. It also said that NONE of the quarterbacks is having a good week in Martz's offense as it takes longer than a week to learn the timing and throws. It also said that Woodson's draft position will now depend heavily on individual workouts where he can showcase his strengths.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Woodson's release, while mechanically sound and pretty, is extremely slow?
