1A State Final: Mayfield/Hazard predictions

From the games I've seen Mayfield play and the 1 game I saw Christian Co, I think Mayfield would win that game or at the very least least be on an even playing field with them.

Mayfield beat Paducah Tilghman in overtime, in a game that could have gone either way. Christian County is certainly better than Tilghman ... look at the gauntlet the Colonels have survived (Bowling Green, Warren Central and John Hardin, the latter two on the road) to get to the finals.

Solid information on Hazard just does not seem to exists on the world wide web. I would love to watch a Hazard game online

Mayfield dresses 51 kids. Normally, they dress in the 40-45 range, but, they have a few more this year due to a high # from the soph and fresh classes. 9 freshmen transferred from Graves Co this year and although only 1 or 2 get many minutes, they're all good athletes and several play on special teams. Next year, I suspect Mayfield will still have high #s, but, fall back a little because of losing so many kids in the trenches as well as a 3 yr starting QB, but, the following 2 years should be outstanding, so, if you're gonna beat em, you better do it next year, imo...

Mayfield imo has been at #1 all season and wil finish that way. I will pulling for Hazard but I believe that this is Mayfield's year

I think Mayfield could beat those teams too...They could also lose to any of them, just as Christian Co could have...It's not like CC ran thru those teams.. BG and WC were won in the last seconds of the game, when CC trailed basically the whole games or big portions of those...I also think Mayfield played one of its worse games of the year against PT and you can pretty much throw the records out when those 2 play anyway... Not trying to take anything away from PT, because they were 1 team that matched the Cards in the speed category, but, Guhy wasn't throwing the ball well, even though he had very little pressure and Richardson and Higginson both dropped a couple of passes that should have been for sure TDs... Forrest made a few unbelievable catches in that game, too, because PT had little to no running game...

Christian definately beat higher quality opponents, but, I wouldn't penalize Mayfield for not having the chance to play them... All I've heard through this whole playoffs is how Mfd hasn't played anyone and whoever they were up against would be more prepared and battle tested and then all they do is run thru them like a juggernaut... Granted, schedules matter, to a degree, but, results do, as well, and anyone who watches this team has to realize they're a top notch quality team with alot of talent, depth and diversity, regardless of what class they're in... IMO, they would be a Top 10 6a team, Top 5 5a team, Top 3 4a team and would be #1 in the lower 3 classes, but, that's just my opinion...

Glad to be in the Championship again, but mixed emotions on the opponent. On one hand, you would like to have another crack at Lexington Christian. Otherwise, the two teams with perfect records also has quite an appeal to it.

I think the biggest thing is people think just because you're a 1a enrollment that you couldn't beat a good 4 or 5a team.. In alot of cases, thats the truth, but, I've seen alot of 4a and 5a teams who have less players than Mayfield does and certainly alot less skill players.. I watched NCC against Beechwood and imo, they're nowhere near as talented as Mayfield.. I think Mayfield would have handled Lone Oak this year, who was pretty much a Top 5 team in 4a.. Christian is athletic, but, also, a very lucky team and not a great offensive team, at all. Sure, CC has played a good schedule, but, that doesn't mean I can't watch 2 teams on different fields and determine who I think would win or which I think had the most talent...
