Any news on a new Covington Catholic's head coach?

For some jobs head coaching experience is either a must or the job is good enough that there will applicants with winning head coaching experience. CCH is one of those jobs. I don't see why they would need to risk hiring someone without varsity head coaching experience.

Again, from what I hear the Moeller coach cound have had a head coaching job if he wanted, and I hear he could have been in lin eot take over Moe if their head coach ever retired. I am also hearing he is the best man for the job, no one knows how the interviews went, others may have either went it thinking they are the man for the job and just threw their hat into the ring, others may have bombed in their interviews.

Since you are a Beechwood person, look at Yeagle, When Barre left Beechwood the team was in great shape, even with the upset lose to Bellevue in the playoffs his last year. Beechwood had a team that should have had a lot of outside interests, and good enough to get a coach with winning head coaching experience, but they went with Yeagle who had no head coaching experience, it looked like the risk there paid off.

There was a new gym in the plans. I don't think that is the case any longer.

Correct. I would say at this point, a new gym has worked its way down into the "25 year plan".

I just don't understand how they could not hire Rick Shumate assuming he has interest. I think Shumate has done an exemplary job at BW and would be a great fit.

I am sure he didn't make any friends when Beechwood knocked CCH out of the districts either.

I too have heard that the young coach from Moe and the young coach from Lasalle are two of the final candidates. I do not have an issue with a young coach with no head coaching experience getting the job - however I have to admit the first thing I thought about was the last time that Cov Cath hired a GCL guy. Didn't take him to long to head back across the river. I for one do not want that to happen again.

I also heard that an offer was going to be extended today to one of the finalists and an announcement would come Monday. Not sure if has or will happen, but that is what I was recently told to expect.

You have to respect his position at that time and what side of the fence he was on. Rick is a proud CCH graduate and I'm sure he would love to coach his alma mater. Gotta let bygones be bygones. Bypassing him for this job to satisfy egos would be a huge mistake imo.

I do understand that to a degree, but I am not sure there is a good place to 'cut your teeth' at. I like the idea that these young guys come from very established and successful programs. I have always heard great things about the program at Moeller. Not sure how long he was there, but I would certainly think he learned a thing or two on what made Moeller successful, and could bring that to Cov Cath.

Well I wasn't saying that I had any problem with the guy. I frankly don't know anything about him beyond his coaching at Beechwood, and I can only give him respect for that. I was just saying, it could have some kind of bearing on the situation.

I beg to differ, there is no such thing as Lexington Catholic Middle School. If you know there is one please give me the address, I have been trying to find it for years!

I incorrectly made the assumption that because they fielded a middle school team that the school itself existed. You are correct that there is no physical location for a Lexington Catholic Middle School, but they do have a feeder team and an installed system that develops players for their high school careers.

Would you want a head coach who backed down from a challenge just because he was playing his alma mater?

It's thinking like this that makes CCH a tough job. Hope the CCH faithful likes the GCL style of basketball with lots of 45-42 scores and grind it out possessions. If there is one thing the Listerman era has shown is that sometimes just winning isn't enough.

If Rick Shumate doesn't get the job we can all debate as to the "should he" aspect. No way in heck the reason is because BW beat CCH once in a tourney in a down year for CCH.
