State Championship Rings

Is it too early or have the winning/runner-up schools begun to design their respective Rings? I know that Highlands have met with their "17 person design team" and have put together a rather nice stylish ring. The usual Bling that goes on the ring. Top full of diamonds(or CZ's) with a H and record and name on the sides. Maybe a score of the game. I do know this, it doesn't have everything that last years or even past years rings have had on them. I think they are turning the page so to speak. I really look forward to seeing the final design.

I have never knew the runner-up teams can get a ring.

I would think Simon Kenton would do something, but not rings...

That's up to your school, boosters, parents, etc. If you have the funds and desire, Balfour has a ring for you.:dancingpa

And certainly more practical given the "gaudiness" and size of most state rings. If they kept the design of the watch under control, a watch that you could wear every day would make much more sense. From what I know, most kids stop wearing their state rings after they go to college and relegate them to a drawer. You may be on to something Z. :thumb:

This is probably a very ignorant question but do the kids (parents) pay for the rings or does the school provide them? I would imagine that most schools would not be able to pay for the rings. . . what about the kid who cannot afford it?

There are college teams that get a ring for going to a bowl game, but not necessarily win the game. If I am not mistaken Georgetown College got rings for being runner-up in 2002, maybe. I am not stating that as fact, but I believe I heard that somewhere... The ring is sacred. There was an article in ESPN The Magazine a few years back about championship rings. The article stated that a championship ring is to a guy, what an engagement ring is to a woman. If there is a championship ring in the room, chances are a guy will ask to see it....

Not sure how everyone in the state does it, but at Highlands, the player (or parents) buys the ring. There were two choices last year, the silver version (less expensive) and the gold version (more expensive) of the same design.

I seem to recall a similar discussion last year where one poster stated their booster organization purchased the rings, but I can't remember who said that.

Most Booster organizations can't afford to buy an entire team ring but the boosters can help buy the mold and have the parents/players pay for the individual ring. The parents could always ask to do

a fundraiser if they can't afford it.

The design of the FC Falcons ring will be kept under wraps for a while. They have thier end of year banquet on the 28th, and the boys will usually find out a few days prior what it will look like.

I remember last years banquet well, seeing the look on my son's face and in his eyes when he opened his ring box and saw HIS ring. It was nice.....wish I was there for this one; I'll be there for next years.
