Adidas 5 classic starts sunday in Cincy

Recommended Posts

Some of the best players in the country will be at UC starting sunday for the Adidas 5 Classic. Lot of kids from Kentucky will be playing. Interesting first game matchup has a rematch of the Kentucky 17u aau finals as the Derek Smith All Stars play the Shining Stars for the third time, with both teams having one win against the other.

Scheduled for Sunday at 8am, should be a good game.

Derek Smith then plays the Las Vegas Prospects at 4pm Sunday

Game just concluded with Derek Smith winning 80-54. Shining Stars without Penny and Sanford (reasons unknown). Played good team ball in possibly their best game of the summer. Only stat I have is that Ferguson had 17 points on 4-9 from three point range. Must of had 5 or 6 in double figures with balanced scoring.

NOTE: Not at game, but got info via cell phone from a person who was at the game.

TYPICAL 8AM GAME

Not sure if anyone was really "ready" to play, but DS did have about 6 kids in double figures and had Bevins back playing although Barret Meyer was out with ankle injury. Not sure if Sanford and Penny are really a part of Shining Stars program, or were just on rental for the state aau, but their absence

didn't help the Shining Stars.

Still a lot of basketball to be played, in front of all the big programs in the country. Great Exposure for all the kids.

Las Vegas Prospects are a tough team with a lot of d-1 recruits on it coming up at 4 this afternoon.

It was interesting to see the Shining Stars start the game with only five or six players. DS looked strong.

A late entry, the Kentucky Gators fared well against two of the top teams in the event including nationally touted Seattle Select which features UL commit Peyton Siva and top 100 player Josh Smith.

Against the Seattle Select team and in front of 50+ college coaches including coach Rick Pitino, the KY Gators led by 4 with 4 minutes to go before losing by 5. Jacob Jenkins finished with 24 point and hit 4 of 7 from long range. Seattle even had to utilize a box and 1 on Jenkins and stalled the last 2 minutes to hold on for the win. Jordan Hickman also added 23 or 24. In the earlier game against Carolina, Jenkins finished with 32 and was 7 of 10 from long range.

More hoops to be played. I like the DS Allstars to do some damage in this one. Kentucky is representing.
