Playoff Winless Teams/Byes

Since we have some teams, who are winless but yet are in the Playoffs, could there not be a proposal to correct: Several options....

1) Give "Byes", to the #1 Seed in each Region. If there are 2 or 4 winless teams, than they aren't included in Playoffs, so #1's get byes. If they're are 2-1 win teams, than let them play each other and winners, get the other Region #1's.

2) If winless teams, restructure to not include.

Can a format like this work or just leave as is, with all making the Playoffs. What other options, could help correct. Thoughts/comments....

I agree if you don't have a single win, much less a district victory you should not be in the playoffs.

Back in the 80's the KHSAA had sub districts and district and so on, there was no way a winless team could get in back then.

If Danville doesn't come in Friday with there heads screwed on straight they may be the first to go down to a 0-10 Glasgow...

I don't like the number one seed getting a bye. I would think that most of those teams don't want the week off. I know that I would I believe that they just should take the top 2 teams.

I know you may be frustrated, but Danville is way to talented to lose a 2st rounder. I like D, and think they can make a pretty serious run

Come on Adopted. Lighten up a little. We all know the expectations set on the Danville kids is high, but it could be a lot worse.

I'm sticking with the proposal I've already stated on other threads:

Move to 5 classes. This puts an average of 44 teams in each class, and ensures that all districts have 5-6 teams. That means no 0-10 teams can advance. You would have to win at least one game to finish 4th in the district.

There are 30 teams not in the playoffs. IF you allow 192 of 222, why not all of them? The existing playoff structure makes no sense in terms of playing playoff caliber football. I wonder how many of these games will end with running clocks?

Not defending the current system, just explaining - 32 teams per class makes for a nice, equitable, easy-to-run, everybody-has-to-play-every-week post-season tournament... Adding the other 30 makes for awkward tournaments.

As a fan of an 0-10 team that's in the playoffs I can say that I think they need to do something to prevent this in the future. I like seeing my team in the playoffs, but not if they didn't earn it. At 0-10 there is no way to justify having the same opportunities as teams that played their tails off to make the playoffs.

Before 1959 their were no classes. Then they went to two state classes and a third in Jefferson County. In 1975 they moved up to four classes. Why they decided to skip five and move straight to six has always befuddled me. Of course the given reason was the state's geography wasn't condusive to having five classes...:confused:

2 years ago I think there were only 4 teams in Highlands district in 3A.
