Round 3 "Blind Draw" Matchups for 2006

There was a lot of secrecy and speculation about the "blind draw" in yesterdays conversations about the new playoff format.

KHSAA approves playoff changes

4A 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 6, 5 vs. 4, 7 vs. 8.

3A 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6, 7 vs. 8.

2A 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 5, 4 vs. 6, 7 vs. 8

1A 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6, 7 vs. 8.

The blind draw came out mysteriously the same as the traditional 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 matchups we are used to.

The only changes were the swapping of 4A D6 and D4 and 2A D5 and D4.

Out of 32 districts, the blind draw only changes 4? That is hard to believe.

That looks like a very odd 'blind draw' to me. Only 4 districts are impacted out of 32 and they are all 4A? Very odd indeed.

The blind draw came out mysteriously the same as the traditional 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 matchups we are used to.

 

The only changes were the swapping of 4A D6 and D4 and 2A D5 and D4.

Looks like we are on the same page here. Very odd indeed! If I had a team in the only 4 impacted I would have to wonder about how the 'blind draw' was conducted.

One big unanswered question I have is what happens in Round 4?

Using 2A as an example (because I think 4A needs a rest)

2A 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 5, 4 vs. 6, 7 vs. 8

Assume 1, 5, 4 and 8 wins the above matchups, is there another draw for the semifinals or will 1 play 5 and 4 play 8?

It shows little respect from the Board of Controls and the KHSAA towards the H.S. Football Coaches of this state. They are insulting our intelligence telling us that it was a blind draw, but mysteriously 1A and 3A managed to "Draw" the same alignment as always.

I think the coaches of this state deserve an explanation and apology from the KHSAA and the Board of Controls.

Don't insult us like that. We have enough problems and obstacles to overcome within our own school systems and Football in general in this "Basketball" Crazy state. Don't treat us like idiots and tell us it was a "Blind" Draw.

Typical KHSAA, and typical abuse of power and authority. Just like telling us we have to use a certain type of game ball for the playoffs and state championships because the KHSAA has a contract with a particular company.

Give me a break. No wonder we are losing so many fine coaches and teachers to other states.

Lexington, KY- The Kentucky High School Athletic Association and World Wrestling Entertainment have entered into a five-year marketing agreement that was approved this morning by the KHSAA Board of Control. Under the guidelines of the agreement, the WWE will now manage and market all state championships sanctioned by the KHSAA. The agreement will call for complete control by the WWE as they established new rules and guidelines that will govern the KHSAA sanctioned sports.

The initial move by the WWE was to market the changes in the 2006 KHSAA Football Championships. A blind draw was conducted yesterday to establish a new format for the state championships. In the draw, all Class A and AAA championships will continue to play the regions they have opposed in past seasons. However, Class AA and AAAA teams find themselves in a mixed-bag format that will pit all major private schools against each other prior to the state championship games. Ideas for future consideration included a "tag-team" format that will permit a team to replace itself with another squad during the first three quarters of any playoff game. "We believe this idea will allow us to keep teams alive that the public really wants to see," said KHSAA Board of Control member Rip Offenhemier. The Board is continuing to look at re-classification for 2007, with the latest proposal outlining a proposed 120 class system which would provide a similar number of state champions as we currently have national champions in cheerleading.

Rumors were wild after the Board of Control meeting. While we can not confirm what changes are to be made, there is speculation that all private school swimmers will now swim with a weighted vest, all track relays will be replaced by three-legged races, and golfers from odd number regions will only be permitted to carry odd number irons and even numbered regions will carry even numbered irons in their bags.

Changes in basketball and soccer are not expected to be major because no one would dare touch basketball in Kentucky and there have never been rules in place for soccer anyway!
