Jackson ruled ineligible to play at Scott County

Thats not the point. Th KHSAA did not mention the mistake they made ruling Jackson eligible and then changing it. That is just awful. I understand everyone having their opinions on the decision, but you can't say the situation was handled professionally IMO.

Have to agree with you there.

They will get eligible. Whatever it take's. Who cares if they do. But everyone and I mean EVERYONE knows they went there for basketball. So it would be nice if everyone went completely honest and admitted that because it is true,AND pray and hope they get eligible. Who cares if they get to play at Scott Co. They need to play somewhere so it might as well be Scott Co.

If you read the link posted by Guru above, it clearly states they will be sitting out this year. They will however have their senior years still and I expect them to get a ring that year.

On a side not, are they still allowed practicing with the team and going to games but not dressing?

I am the first one to ridicule transfers and the schools involved, but how can the KHSAA rule Euton ineligible when there was a legitimate change of address? I know, I know the (athletic purpose) argument but come on, when you HAVE TO move, then that is reason enough to be eligible. Jackson is a different argument IMO.

I will go on record and WRITE IT DOWN and say Jackson, Euton will be playing at Scott Co. next season.

 

Zollo will be doing the same at GRC.

Because of public statements made by Clay Euton (the father of one of the students) indicating that his son’s transfer to Scott County was in whole or partly motivated by a desire to play basketball at the school as well as concerns involving the recent transfer of other AAU basketball teammates to Scott County, Dakotah Euton's request for a waiver of Bylaw 6 was denied.

Because there is a clause in the KHSAA bylaws that state a transferring athlete may not have eligibility granted "If the change in schools is motivated in whole or part by a desire to participate in athletics at the new school."

Given Clay Euton's published comments concerning his family's move and his son's transfer to Scott County, I think you can make an argument (under the bylaw described above) that perhaps Dakotah Euton shouldn't be granted immediate eligibility, but should have to sit out a year.

Personally, I'm not inclined to agree with that stance ... the family is making a legitimate move, as far as I know, and you can't prevent people from moving to a new home in a new city.

But the rule is there in black and white ... and so are Clay Euton's comments.

I think Euton has a legit case. His dad was forced to move...he did. He ended up at Scott County.He wasn't moving because of athletic reasons. How he chose Scott County is the pickle.

IMO, the commissioner was left no choice but to rule him ineligible in light of the quotes in the paper. If there are no quotes, he is good to go.

Since the quotes were made, the commissioner had to back the rules of the KHSAA which is legislated by the member schools of the KHSAA. If she didn't she would have lost her faith and the KHSAA weakened. She made the only ruling she could in my opinion, but the Euton's have a chance to explain themselves...then and only then the exception can be made....which I think will.

As for the Jackson case, I dont know the background of it other than the kid saying it was for competitive reasons.

In looking back at what he has said I did not see when he toured the facilities and according to 18 new last night he had only been there when he coach AAU basketball!
